Seven Steps to Inner Power, pg 75, ~Dr. Tae Yun Kim
 .
One of nature’s most beautiful symbols is “patience” the transformation – the metamorphosis – of the caterpillar into a butterfly, when the outward picture of the caterpillar’s  “beingness” changes drastically from one form into another.
 .
For a certain period, the caterpillar ingests food to enable it to grow to a certain point. This is a distinct period of time that cannot be rushed. When that point is reached, it then forms a cocoon in which it must wait for another period of time. A transformation occurs in the quiet cocoon that cannot be rushed or disturbed. Then at last, at the appointed time, a butterfly emerges, a different creature altogether from the caterpillar, who then reproduces so that the cycle begins all over again.

The meaning of the name “Jung SuWon”

February 13, 2017

The Art of Jung SuWon

Jung SuWon” means the uniting ofbody, mind and spirit in total harmony

The example/story that I try to help students understand the meaning of Jung SuWon training goes like this:  When you are sitting at home with your school books open trying to do your homework but your mind is elsewhere maybe thinking of having a good time with your friends… ask yourself “am I getting my school work done effectively”.  The answer will be a resounding “No”.  Then when you are out with your friends at the mall having a good time but deep in the back of your head you are saying to yourself… bummer I still have not done my homework… ask yourself am I really having a good time with my friends?

In both of these situations our body and mind are in different places.  The solution is to put your body and mind…

Learning Coordination and Utilizing Our Bodies

February 13, 2017

The Art of Jung SuWon

The physical aspects of martial arts training isn’t only about kicking and punching. We also learn more about how to utilize our body and learning about the mechanics and coordination of our bodies. This requires lots of practice to become good at it and this requires different methods of working out our body with lots of repetition.  At Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy, we work on different exercises that help us refine our coordination and our abilities.

For the regular classes, we practiced a fun activity that all of the students can enjoy. We were practicing our coordination by jumping back and forth above a belt. As we succeed in one particular height, we would elevate the belt to a higher height. This helps us to challenge ourselves as the belt height gradually becomes higher.

This is a fun and exciting way for us to challenge ourselves and our bodies. We…

2017 Lunar New Year “Fire Rooster”, and Connect the Dots

January 29, 2017

rooster_connect_dots

This 2017 Lunar New Year, (January 27, 2017), is the year of the “Fire Rooster”

What ”Fire Rooster” Means

Both the zodiac sign and the element shape the astrology of the year. For example, 2017 is a Fire Rooster year. Element-sign combinations recur every 60 years.

Both zodiac sign and element are believed to affect one’s personality and destiny.

In Chinese astrology, each zodiac year is not just associated with an animal sign, but also with one of five elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, or Earth.

~~~
Dr. Tae Yun Kim’s The First Element book, pg 41, has a description of the “Fire” element.
Here is an excerpt:
Your Spiritual Body is “Fire”. Fire is the element which corresponds to your pure life force energy.  This energy manifests electrical or electromagnetic forces which operate just below the level of your physical body. This is the body of flowing energy which acupuncturists adjust in order to correct physical problems.
In a healthy state, this fire ki energy flows throughout the body in currents expressing the nature of yin and yang. In an unbalanced state, your physical body may manifest signs of too much yang fire energy (an excited, overactive state, such as a fever) or too much yin (a lethargic or stagnant state, such as a cold.)
How to Make an Easy Vertical Garden & Word Search!
April 22, 2016
Hello Young Warriors,
The best tasting herbs are grown at home.  A few green herbs are: parsley, cilantro, basil, dill, mint.
On page 58 in The First Element, Green strongly influences the heart.  As the middle color of the spectrum, the balance and harmony, green helps alleviate tension.  Green imparts a feeling of renewal, freshness and optimism.  Positive qualities associated with Green are generosity, humility, and cooperation. ~Dr. Tae Yun Kim
Here’s an Easy way to make your very own Vvertical-bottle-garden3ertical Herb Garden:
Easy Vertical Bottle Garden
Supplies:
  1. 3+ plastic water bottles (2 liter water bottle)
  2. Potting soil (Miracle Grow)
  3. A pair of Scissors
  4. Lettuce seeds or Herb seeds
  5. A Glue Gun & Glue stick
How to Instructions:
  1. Recycle your plastic water bottles. Make sure they are the same size.
  2. Remove the labels.
  3. With a pair of scissors, make a hole through each screw-on bottle top lid so that water can drip from one bottle down to the next.
  4. With a pair of scissors, cut the base of the second bottle so the neck of the first bottle can fit into the second bottle.  Do this step with each bottle.
  5. Use a glue gun to glue your bottles together.
  6. With a pair of scissors, cut an opening in the side of the bottles for the seedlings to grow through.  This will allow your plants to grow out the side of the bottle and be picked.
  7. Fill each bottle half full with potting soil.
  8. Plant 3 lettuce seeds or herb seeds in the dirt of each bottle.
  9. Hang the bottles in a sunny location (6 hours of sunshine per day) sunny window, or balcony, or fence.
  10. Cut a hole in the top bottle base.
  11. Water the top bottle and watch the water drip down to the remaining bottles.
  12. An empty bottle at the very bottom of your bottle garden can be added to collect any excess water. When full you can reuse this water and start the process trickling down once again.
  13. Be patient – in 1-2 weeks your lettuce or herb seeds will sprout and grow into plants that you can pick and eat.
